Well to start the week off we got grandma! We were so excited to have her come for a whole week. This was the first day she was here and my girls came downstairs, having decorated themselves as something or other. We had such a good time with you mom and it just makes me wish that you lived closer. The girls have been so sad now that you are gone and Lilly asks where you are in the morning still and I have to break the news to her that you are no longer her at our house. Can't wait to see you in February!!
So here is my question to everyone........was anyone else putting out a grease fire with 3 boxes of baking soda in their oven on Thanksgiving? WE WERE! Since I only have one oven we were trying to fit the turkey and the stuffing in at the same time. The turkey had already been cooking for quite a while but we needed to get the stuffing going. So as we were moving the turkey around some of the juices started slopping down into the oven making smoke start to billow out! We sat there for a few minutes trying to decide what to do. I put my oven mitts on and decided that I needed to get the turkey out and figure out how to stop the smoke. Just at that time a fire bursts out in my oven!! The smoke alarms start sounding and the kids start crying. Dustin come running into the kitchen to see flames shooting out the oven and immediately grabs the fire extinguisher and gets ready to douse not only the oven but the turkey as well. Before he could ruin our turkey there was a collective yell from my mom, my sister, and myself of, "NOT THE TURKEY!!!" So I quickly grabbed the roasting pan and pulled it out of the oven. Then Dustin got smart and
remembered the baking soda and we luckily my stock of baking soda in my garage came in handy. (By the way I recommended some water.....apparently I need to be in more crisis situations). We went through 3 boxes of baking soda before the fire was finally out. And it was a HUGE mess everywhere. But we saved the turkey. So after the excitement died down the men got to work cleaning up the mess. Which was very very nice.
Here is my next question........was anyone else
VACUUMING out their oven on Thanksgiving? WE WERE!
They even scrubbed the kitchen floor of all the grease and baking soda. After already cooking all day and having a lot more cooking to do we were very grateful that we didn't have to clean up the kitchen as well.
Then finally when it was time to eat we put them to work again. Dustin carving the turkey and Ryan popping the bubbly.
Thankfully, it was all worth it when we assembled our feast! The turkey took a couple hours longer than we were planning with all everything that happened but it was DELICIOUS! My mom tried brining the turkey this year and it was delicious and moist. Well done mom!
I loved getting to use my china that I never get to use. The table looked beautiful!
Then it was off to the living room for the show. Dinner and show on Thanksgiving, what else could you ask for?

These things would only happen to you guys Jessica!
I'm happy to see the return of Dustin's scary moustache!!
everything looks amazing! I wish I could have been there. I love all the pictures. The window looks fantastic, and I really liked the turkey story. It seriously sounded like a movie.
I'm so glad you have that nice, big house to fit everyone in. And I'm glad the house didn't burn down while you were all in it. ;>
SO SO funny! =) (this is missy by the way) At least the GIRLS had enough sense to save the TURKEY...to heck with burning down the house =)! haha! PS: your kitchen is BEAUTIFUL. I hope to see it in person someday!
