As I have watched each one of Maddy's permanent teeth grow in I have actually been able to feel my wallet get lighter, and lighter, and lighter. I took her in about 6 months ago to get a consultation with an orthodontist as her teeth just kept growing in crazier and crazier. He told us the "good" news that because of everything that is going on in her mouth she needs double treatment! So today, after waiting for a couple of teeth to grow in, we finally got the first portion of a three step process to basically fit her with internal head gear. Thankfully these days they don't make the kids wear that awful head gear anymore. Now they just stick 2 big metal bars inside your mouth. Doesn't that sound much better?
However, because of her nasty thumb sucking habit (PLEASE PULL YOUR BABIES THUMB OUT OF THEIR MOUTHS RIGHT NOW!!!!) she has a SEVERE over bite that we have to get corrected now. So she will have these 2 metal bars connecting her upper teeth and her lower teeth forcing her mouth to bite properly, and thus encouraging her bottom jaw bone to grow into where it should be.
The first step was the spacers. They put basically four thick rubber bands in between all four of her back teeth. In about a week or two she will get caps put on the back molars and then about a week after that she will get her bars glued in. She gets to wear that for about a year. Then we will wait for her other teeth to grown in and about a year later she will get her braces on. So instead of just paying for braces we now get to pay for double treatment.
It is totally worth it to us to give Maddy a beautiful mouth and smile but also because she really can't even bite or chew food properly because her over bite is so bad. But I really wish that a certain brother-in-law had actually became a dentist/ortho......you know who you are......physical therapy was already taken in my family......I needed a teeth doctor!;)
Anyway, Maddy is a little sore and not particularly a happy camper right now and she probably won't be for the rest of the month, but I just have to keep telling her and my bank account that it is going to be worth it in the end.
Now on to noses..... mine in particular! Well after finishing yet a second round of steroids in 2 and half months and starting allergy shots to help combat my polyp problem, I visited the doctor yesterday to see what was going on. He finally concluded that it looks like I am going under the knife. We have to do a CT scan finally to see what exactly is going on with my sinuses because the steroid isn't having the effect that he wants, but it looks like I am going to have to get them removed. Has anyone else ever dealt with this? I am a little nervous about it.

Wow, Jess. That is a lot to deal with all at once! I agree with the braces thing. Such a pain, literally, but so worth it! Liv keeps telling me she would rather have crooked teeth than have her mouth hurt, but I know that will change!
I hope you find out soon how to take care of the nose problem!
does maddy's mouth kill? ah, that sounds painful. braces are bad enough, but it will totally be worth it. Is she excited to look like her aunt alli?.. i guess it won't be for a while, but at least you are doing this now, and not when she is 24! haha.
I can't believe you are finally getting surgery! I am sure everything is going to be fine. They do this surgery probably ALL the time. Is it the same as bryan?
Lexi's teeth are the same way, She is going to have to have some pulled. I was just wondering how your smeller was going. I am sorry about the prognosis, that seems really scary.

Okay, now I am officially scared. The dentist keeps giving me referrels to the ortho for Djeryd's teeth (because he probably needs pre-braces work) and I have been seriously dragging my feet. It just sounds like a bunch of misery. Ugh. I guess I better get him in there. At least Maddy and Djeryd will have another thing in common. ;>
NOT FUN for either of you. I'm sorry you have to deal with all that. I never had braces so I won't be able to empathize very well when our kids need them-- as I'm sure some orthodontist will tell me they do. Good luck
Oh poor maddy. That is not very fun. I sucked my thumb for a long time and I guess I got lucky! It will be worth it on her 16th birthday when you snap a picture of her beaming a beautiful smile on her first date!!
and you...well what I know about ENT surgery is that the actual time under the knife is pretty minimal. But the recovery usually sucks because your nasal passages are swollen and you cant breathe or smell. But....you're already like that so you're gonna think its a piece of cake and the rest of the patients are a bunch of whiny babies!
